“What super rats?” Herman Mozingo wondered. He was a stocky, gray-haired man, who owed his position to his way with women. He didn’t do any of the maintenance work himself. He was much too busy schmoozing with the ladies in admin and pocketing the money that was supposed to be paying for eight more sealers who were supposed to be keeping seals good throughout the station. Herman was enjoying their salaries, since they were all ghosts.

He had been assuming that the reason for the low leakage rates was that his four-man real team was top notch, plus a bit of good luck.

But rats?

That was pest control, which was part of his department.

He used his internal to call Charlie Fitzgerald. “Chuck, what do you know about some sort of super rat that’s been running around sealing leaks?”

“Boss, have you been drinking?” Charlie Fitzgerald asked.

“No, I have not been drinking, you moron. This comes from Admin.”

“Then Admin’s been drinking. Probably whisky and thon juice, with too much thon juice, if they were seeing rats running around putting patches over leaks.” Charlie laughed.

“Shut your face, Fitzgerald. Go find me some rats, and you had better hope they are ordinary rats.” He cut the call.
